Who is Home Care Right For?

It’s never an easy decision when you or a loved one is ready for assisted living, a nursing home or home care in San Diego. There are many options to choose from in senior care, but care at home is often a preferred choice because it allows seniors to stay in their home or in the home of a loved one, where they can feel comfortable and retain some independence. Home care isn’t right for everyone, though. We’ll shed some light on who home care is (and isn’t) the correct fit for based on a series of factors, including medical needs, layout of the home and various individual specifications.

Medical Needs

The decision to begin utilizing in-home care services may depend on the medical needs of the senior. Home Care Assistance offers a variety of non-medical services, such as the following:

  • meal preparation
  • light housekeeping
  • medication reminders
  • assistance with toileting, bathing and dressing
  • grooming
  • physical and mental activity

Many seniors are ideal candidates for these types of services. We are able to meet most of the physical, as well as the mental and emotional, needs of our clients in a way that is both highly competent and truly compassionate. For those who require daily medical care, however, an assisted living facility or nursing home may be more appropriate. Our highly trained caregivers are available around the clock or just for a few hours a day, depending on the needs of the client. It’s important to note that they cannot, however, provide the type of specialized medical services that a doctor or nurse would offer.

Home Environment

Seniors living in a safe environment should be eligible for in-home care. As long as the client can safely remain in their home without risking injury or illness, we can provide any or all of the services listed above and more. However, if the layout of the home is difficult to get around in, such as a two-story home for a senior with difficulties walking, it may not be an ideal situation. Mold and other toxins are also threats to individual health. It’s important to be certain the home is a safe environment to provide proper care.

Individual Needs

We provide individualized home care plans for clients based on their budgets, needs and specifications. As long as we are able to provide all of the services you require in a safe home environment, it can be an ideal situation. Contact us to find out how we can cater to your individual needs and see if you or your loved one is eligible for our caring and compassionate services.
